Detailed Description

DGS Code Generation Plugin is a build-time code generator that produces Java or Kotlin code from GraphQL schema definitions.

The plugin solves the problem of manually writing boilerplate code to represent GraphQL types, queries, and data fetchers. It reads your GraphQL schema file during the build process and generates data types for types, input types, enums, and interfaces; a DgsConstants class containing type and field names; a type-safe query API representing your queries; and example data fetchers. This approach eliminates hand-written schema mappings and ensures generated code stays synchronized with schema changes.

The tool suits teams building GraphQL services with the DGS Framework who want to reduce boilerplate and maintain type safety across their schema. It integrates as a Gradle plugin, making it straightforward to add to existing build pipelines. The plugin can optionally generate Markdown documentation from your schema by setting generateDocs to true, writing output to a configurable directory within your build artifacts. This is particularly useful for teams that need to maintain schema documentation alongside their generated code.

The project shows consistent maintenance with regular updates to keep pace with GraphQL and JVM ecosystem changes. Development activity demonstrates responsiveness to issues and pull requests, indicating active engagement with the user community. The codebase maintains clear separation between the code generation logic and its Gradle plugin integration, making it approachable for contributors. Documentation is well-organized with dedicated guides for getting started and detailed code generation configuration, suggesting the maintainers prioritize developer experience.
