Iris is a shaders mod for Minecraft that enables players to use OptiFine-compatible shader packs while maintaining performance and mod compatibility. The project was created to address the limitations of existing shader solutions: OptiFine's restrictive licensing and poor compatibility with other mods, ShadersMod's abandonment after version 1.12, and the incompatibility of alternatives like Canvas with the existing OptiFine shader pack ecosystem.
