Maintainer activity

9 people did triage or write work on this repository in the last 12 months.

Counts unlabeled, assigned, unassigned, milestoned, demilestoned, locked, unlocked over the last 12 months. These are issue and pull request events that require triage or write permission. Commits and code review are not counted. labeled and renamed are excluded because GitHub issue forms record the issue author as the actor. Figures from October 18, 2026. This count is not comparable across projects: each project's automation decides which of these events a person emits. How this is counted.

How this project is maintained

About 18% of issues opened in the past year have never received a reply. 88% of open issues come from outside the core team, so the backlog reflects real-world use rather than internal planning. 56% of tracked open issues have had no activity in three months. 61% of issues opened in the past year have been closed, leaving a working backlog. Three people close 69% of everything that gets resolved.

Detailed Description

DynamoRIO is a runtime code manipulation system that enables dynamic instrumentation and analysis of executing programs without requiring source code or recompilation.

The tool addresses the need to observe and modify program behavior at runtime by intercepting and transforming instructions as they execute. It works by inserting itself between the operating system and application, allowing arbitrary modifications to instructions across supported architectures including IA-32, AMD64, ARM, and AArch64. Unlike simpler instrumentation frameworks limited to inserting function calls, DynamoRIO provides a full instruction manipulation library that enables comprehensive code transformations. The system operates transparently on unmodified binaries running on stock operating systems including Windows, Linux, and Android.

DynamoRIO suits developers building dynamic analysis tools for profiling, program understanding, binary translation, or security analysis. It is particularly valuable when you need fine-grained control over instruction-level transformations rather than coarse-grained function-level instrumentation. The project demonstrates its utility through several well-known external tools built on its platform, including a Windows fuzzing engine, ARM instruction emulator, and sampling-based sanitizer framework. Developers should be aware that Mac OSX support remains in progress, so platform availability may be a consideration depending on target systems.

The project maintains active development with regular updates to its core instrumentation capabilities and architecture support. The codebase shows ongoing refinement of the instruction manipulation library and runtime system. Development activity indicates sustained attention to both the platform's core functionality and the ecosystem of tools built upon it.
