Maintainer activity

7 people did triage or write work on this repository in the last 12 months.

Counts unlabeled, assigned, unassigned, milestoned, demilestoned, locked, unlocked over the last 12 months. These are issue and pull request events that require triage or write permission. Commits and code review are not counted. labeled and renamed are excluded because GitHub issue forms record the issue author as the actor. Figures from October 18, 2026. This count is not comparable across projects: each project's automation decides which of these events a person emits. How this is counted.

How this project is maintained

Roughly one issue in two opened in the past year never receives a reply. 70% of open issues come from outside the core team, so the backlog reflects real-world use rather than internal planning. 13% of tracked open issues have had no activity in three months. Only 43% of issues opened in the past year have been closed. Three people close 87% of everything that gets resolved.

Detailed Description

IronRDP is a Rust implementation of the Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol that enables remote desktop connectivity through a native Rust library.

The project addresses the need for RDP protocol support in Rust applications without relying on external C dependencies or system libraries. Rather than wrapping existing RDP implementations, IronRDP provides a ground-up implementation of the protocol specification in pure Rust. This approach allows developers to embed RDP client or server functionality directly into Rust applications with full control over the protocol handling and without introducing foreign function interface complexity.

Developers should consider IronRDP when building Rust applications that require RDP connectivity, particularly in scenarios where avoiding C dependencies is important or where tight integration with Rust's type system and error handling is desired. The pure Rust implementation makes it suitable for projects targeting multiple platforms or embedded environments where managing external dependencies becomes problematic. This tool fits well in applications ranging from remote desktop clients to automation frameworks that need to interact with Windows systems via RDP.

The project shows consistent development activity with regular commits addressing protocol implementation details and bug fixes. Work spans across multiple areas of the RDP specification, indicating ongoing expansion of protocol coverage. The codebase receives attention to both core protocol logic and practical usability concerns. Maintenance includes responsiveness to issues and incorporation of community feedback into the implementation.
