SoundSwitch is a Windows application that switches default audio playback and recording devices using configurable hotkeys.
The tool solves the friction of manually navigating Windows audio settings to change devices. It works by letting users configure which playback and recording devices to cycle through, then providing keyboard shortcuts to switch between them instantly. The default hotkeys are Ctrl+Alt+F11 for playback devices, Ctrl+Alt+F7 for recording devices, and Ctrl+Alt+M to mute the microphone. Users can also double-click the system tray icon to switch devices, and the application supports customizable double-click actions to either switch devices, switch audio profiles, or open settings.
SoundSwitch suits anyone who frequently switches between multiple audio devices—such as speakers, headphones, and external audio interfaces—and wants faster switching than the Windows settings menu provides. It is particularly useful for gamers and content creators who need quick device switching without leaving their active application. The tool requires Windows 10 or newer on x64 or ARM64 architecture. It includes a command-line interface for scripting device control, multiple notification styles including banner notifications suitable for in-game use, and a persistent mute indicator banner for the microphone.
The project maintains active engagement with contributors and accepts donations to support ongoing development. Development activity shows consistent attention to user-facing features, with recent work spanning notification systems, CLI functionality, audio profile management, and system tray customization options.
