Detailed Description

Synology HDD db is a shell script that adds unsupported storage drives to a Synology NAS device's compatible drive database.

The tool solves the problem of hardware compatibility restrictions that Synology imposes on which drives can be used in its NAS systems. It works by modifying the internal drive compatibility databases on Synology devices running DSM 6 or DSM 7, allowing users to install SATA and SAS HDDs, SSDs, and NVMe M.2 drives that would otherwise be rejected by the system. The script can target the main NAS database as well as expansion unit and M.2 PCIe card databases. It includes a restore function to revert all modifications if needed.
