Commits and code review are not counted. labeled and renamed are excluded because GitHub issue forms record the issue author as the actor. Figures from October 11, 2026. This count is not comparable across projects: each project's automation decides which of these events a person emits. How this is counted.

Detailed Description

ZXing is a barcode scanning library for Java and Android that decodes multiple 1D and 2D barcode formats.

The library solves the problem of reading barcodes from images by providing a multi-format decoding engine. It supports a wide range of formats including UPC variants, EAN codes, Code 39, Code 128, QR codes, Data Matrix, Aztec, PDF 417, and others. The core library handles image processing and decoding logic, with separate modules providing JavaSE client code, Android integration, and web-based barcode generation.

Developers should adopt this library if they need barcode recognition in Java or Android applications. The core decoding library is suitable for any project requiring robust multi-format barcode detection. The android-integration module enables straightforward integration with the Barcode Scanner app via Intent. However, potential adopters should be aware that the project is in maintenance mode only, with no active development or roadmap. The standalone Barcode Scanner app no longer works with Android 14 and will not be updated. Only bug fixes and minor enhancements are accepted; new features are not being developed.

The project operates in a contributed-patch model where changes are driven by community submissions rather than active maintainers. Development activity is minimal, reflecting the maintenance-only status. The core library and Android integration modules remain functional for those integrating barcode scanning into their own applications, but users should not expect new capabilities or platform updates beyond critical fixes.
