Maintainer activity

1 person did triage or write work on this repository in the last 12 months.

Counts unlabeled, assigned, unassigned, milestoned, demilestoned, locked, unlocked over the last 12 months. These are issue and pull request events that require triage or write permission. Commits and code review are not counted. labeled and renamed are excluded because GitHub issue forms record the issue author as the actor. Figures from October 11, 2026. This count is not comparable across projects: each project's automation decides which of these events a person emits.

How this project is maintained

99% of open issues come from outside the core team, so the backlog reflects real-world use rather than internal planning. Three people close 73% of everything that gets resolved.

Detailed Description

Mockito is a mocking framework for unit tests written in Java.

Mockito addresses the need to isolate code under test by allowing developers to create mock objects that simulate the behavior of real dependencies. The framework works by enabling developers to define what mock objects should do when called, verify that methods were invoked with expected arguments, and stub return values for specific interactions. This approach lets tests focus on a single unit of code without relying on external systems or complex object graphs.

Mockito suits any Java project that uses unit testing, from small applications to large enterprise systems. It integrates well with standard testing frameworks and is particularly valuable when testing code that depends on external services, databases, or other components that are slow or difficult to instantiate in tests. The framework is widely adopted and has established itself as the standard choice in the Java ecosystem for mocking needs.

The project publishes snapshot versions to a public repository after each change, with stable releases to Maven Central roughly monthly using automated release tooling. Only one major version receives support at a time, with changes not backported to older versions. The maintainers maintain comprehensive documentation available through javadoc.io within twenty-four hours of each release and provide semantic versioning guidance for users tracking compatibility across upgrades.
